VOMITING
The dictionary meaning of 'Vomiting' is forceful ejection of food and fluids from the stomach through the mouth. It involves action by abdominal muscles and diaphragm These could be various reasons if yours dog vomits out. It could mean a simple digestive upset. Such a vomiting might be accompanied by loose motions and will be self limiting and of a short duration. The reasons for stomach upset could range from a sudden change in diet to eating unhygienic food like grass or garbage or bones to drinking dirty water from the roadside.
Sometimes the dog vomits out as he doesn't like the taste or flavour of the food given to him.
Dogs are capable of vomiting in voluntary manner. Occasional vomiting could also be due to motion sickness through traveling in a car or any other vehicle. Such vomiting is generally due to an over-filled stomach. Don't let your dog overeat if he is to travel by car immediately afterwards.
If the vomiting is any of these kinds, i.e. the 'not so serious' vomiting, withhold the food and water intake for 12 to 24 hours and give rest to the stomach. Wait for an hour when vomits stop, and give electrolytes like electral or other preparations at short intervals to avoid dehydration.
If the dog vomits on drinking the electrolyte, reduce the density, and give after a longer interval.
If it is an emergency, give some ice cubes to be licked. When vomitings stop, give light food, of course, after a gap of 12-24 hours.
You could choose stuffs like chicken broth and cottage cheese. If the vomiting does not stop within 24 hours, take the dog to the vet. It might signal some serious bacterial or viral infection.
