TELLING TO 'SIT'
Sitting is the easiest of commands to teach. Because he knows how to do it. The only catch is that you want to make him sit at your desire. For that you need to be a bit strict. You can put him down on his haunches in the lawn or any other place, and hold him like that for some time and say
'sit'. And then slowly whenever you say 'sit', he will sit. It is advisable to give the command and the hand gesture at the same time. Dogs learn quicker that way. However, there is one tendency you will see in all dogs. He sits when you tell him, but when you try going away from him, he gets up to follow you. In that case, go back, pat him and say
'sit'. Wait, come back and see if he gets up or not. Repeat this till he understands. If your puppy is very obstinate and stubborn, you should tie him with a lace, so that he can't follow you when you leave. You can open the lace afterwards when he learns to sit. He will gradually know that it's better to keep sitting than to keep standing and be tied. If you feel your dog doesn't obey you, try this psychological manipulation. Hold him sternly by his collar, pull him so that he drags on his hind legs. This affects him more than a slap or scolding, he feels offended. You will see for your self that after this punishment he never repeats the same mistake again.
