PREVENTION OF HEAT
Most owners want their bitch not to conceive in every heat period. There are various precautionary measures available. These include abortion, removing the uterus and ovaries and contraception.
The details are as follows:-
Contraception:- This is the most uncommon method used by owners. For one, you would at the very least want your bitch to be fertile but breed after say, four years from now. For another, one method of contraception may not suit every bitch, and it has side effects for sure. So you need a consultation from your vet. But the same negative points are positive too. The process is reversible, and if you wish to stick to it, consult the vet and get your bitch on a regular diet of contraceptive tablets to postpone the heat.
Abortion :- This is again an extreme measure, which is required only if your bitch has accidently mated. Whether she is pregnant or not is not the question, you will have to wait for long to discover that. A simple remedy is an estiboestrol injection, which if given within one and a half days ( 36 hours) of mating, will postpone the heat period by about 3 weeks.
Removal of Uterus :- This is a permanent cure from the problem of pregnancy of a bitch. Get a small operation done whereby her ovaries and uterus are removed. There are no side effects and it is hundred percent safe.
It is entirely upto you to choose the method, and the mate of your bitch, also whether she should conceive or not; see your convenience and take steps accordingly.
