PARAINFLUENZA
This disease is affects the upper respiratory tract i.e. the wind pipe and some parts of the bronchioles. It is an air borne disease and spreads via a viral infection.
The symptoms would include wild fever accompanied with nasal discharge, persistence of irritation in the lungs and, dry cough all through the day. When the dog coughs, you might feel that something is caught in his throat and he is trying to take it out. If he keeps coughing consistently, he might also feel vomitish.
If good care is not taken in the primary stage, the disease might get complicated and enter the secondary stage. This stage would mean further bacterial and viral infection and the dog might get pneumonia. The disease is called
'kennel cough' in its acute form. The symptoms are likely to last from one to three weeks time.
The treatment again comes from vaccination. For kennel cough, the vet would suggest appropriate cough suppressants. Regular care and check up is needed till the coughing comes under control.
