MENOPAUSE IN BITCHES
Unlike human beings, the bitches don't have anything called a stage of memopause in their lives. They remain fertile throughout their lives. From the age of say eight to nine months old, they can get pregnant any time afterwards. But yet, the capacity to reproduce gradually dismishes. In fact males remain fertile of longer compared to females. By the age of eight, the probability of bitch conceiving becomes almost nil or probably 2-3 percent.
There are various misconceptions regarding spaying in both dogs and bitches. Some people believe that a dog loses his streng6th once spayed. But the experience does not suggest so. Neither the strength nor the sexual behaviour of a dog is affected by spaying. As for bitches, it is believed that if she is spayed before she is able to conceive once, she is dissatisfied and it is
'cruel' on the animal. This again is a myth. We should not confuse the sexual tendencies of human being with those of a different species altogether. Neither does it affect the normal growth pattern in dogs. They continue to be healthy and happy if the operation is done successfully.
