LIMPING

If your dog suddenly starts limping one fine morning, it could be due to various reasons. He might have been injured by a thorn in the paw or a tack or there could be a small cut somewhere on the leg. Take the dog where sufficient light is present. Put water on the leg and make it wet. It makes the leg easier to examine since the hair will stick down. Another possibility of the limp could be a cracked pad, if no other external would is visible. If visible, treat the wound accordingly. Softly touch the pad of his foot with your finger or thumb and if any cracks are present, the dog will groan in pain when you hit the point. You can put any skin healing medicated cream on the affected area. If there is a thorn, remove it with care and apply the ointment. Bandage the wound if it is a cut. If none of these signs are present, it could be swelling in some part of the leg which is causing the limp. If your dog is elderly, it could be a sign of arthritis as well. Get your vet to examine it and treat accordingly.
