Being the sole master of your dog, it is your duty to see that he eats healthy food and keeps in the best of health. If he ever falls sick, which he will at some time or the other, you must be capable of taking care of him. In this section I describe the common diseases and ailments suffered by dogs, how to identify the disease with the symptoms and how to cure it, if there is any home remedy. In the next section I will talk about various first aid measures which can be given to a dog in case of any accident or other kinds of emergencies.
Before I talk about the ailments, a bit of advice as a caution. As soon as you buy the dog, get him vaccinated for a few diseases for which dog vaccinations are available. Precaution is better than cure, as the saying goes. Medical science can protect your dog from rabies, distemper, hepatitis and leptospirosis; the diseases for which vaccines are available as for humans. There is a certain age during which you can get your dog vaccinated. If he has crossed the limit, then of course nothing can be done except for the cure if at all he catches that disease.
